Valentine’s Day Pictures - February 5, 2009
We all know that Valentine’s day is celebrated on the 14th of February and that it is a day to celebrate our love for one another. The tradition is that on Valentine’s day you give flowers, gifts, candy and special greeting cards to that special someone in your life. Today it is highly commercialized as this day ranks number two, only to Christmas in the number of greeting cards sent.
A popular version of the history of this holiday is that Valentine was a priest and that an emperor by the name of Claudius II was ruling Rome. Claudius believed that single men made better soldiers because they were not distracted by thoughts of love and would not allow members of his army to marry. Supposedly, Valentine did not believe this and secretly performed marriage It is thought that the history of Valentine’s day goes back to the third century in Rome. Some say that Valentine was an imprisoned man who had fallen deeply in love with the daughter of the jailor. Just before he was to be executed, he wrote a love letter to the young lady, proclaiming his love and signed the letter ‘from your Valentine’. The same message is used in Valentine’s day cards to this day, and also stamped on candy and gifts.

So, there are several theories of what exactly is the meaning behind the holiday made for love, but regardless of the true reasons, it is a day to give gifts, flowers and cards to those that we care about.
In the United States in the grade schools, Valentine’s day is celebrated in the classrooms. The children all bring one small Valentine’s day card with them to place on the desk of each of their classmates. Special Valentine’s day pictures are taken by the teachers of the plates of cookies and sweets piled high on the treat table.
Many young men wish to surprise the women that they love by purchasing expensive gifts such as diamond rings, large stuffed animals, beautiful bouquets of flowers or even a romantic dinner in a fine restaurant. Valentine’s day is also a day that many men choose to propose marriage to their sweethearts because it is considered ‘the day of love’. Many couples want to be sure to remember this special day by taking pictures for Valentine’s day so that the memories can live on for years.
Many couples also pick the 14th day of February as the day to marry. What a better day to exchange vows with the person you love than on Valentine’s day?
Regardless of how people choose to celebrate this day of love, there is no doubt that Valentines day pictures are in most couple’s photo albums. It is a day for sweethearts and sweets, and a very popular day to show your lover just how much he or she is adored.
